Hoʻomālamalama: Shining a light on culturally responsive care with Kānaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiians)
Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 9am - 12:15pm HST Via Zoom
Course Description: To live and work in Hawaiʻi is a privilege that invites all those who benefit from the richness of the land and culture to learn about and honor our Kānaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiian) culture. Native Hawaiians are the indigenous peoples of Hawaiʻi and comprise approximately 22% of our state’s population, and 0.4% of our national population. Of the nearly 183,000 registrants with ASHA, 0.1% identify as Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander. Although this disparity may seem minute, it is reflective of the greater underrepresentation of Native Hawaiians in healthcare, and highlights the need for building a base of cultural knowledge and reflexivity for healthcare professionals.
Join us for a wonderful educational experience with speakers:
