Henry Lew, Legislative Committee Chair

Dr. Lew first came to Honolulu at the age of 12, when his father was a visiting professor at the East West Center.  After completing high-school and college education in Asia (Hong Kong and Taiwan), he returned to the UH as a graduate student, enrolling in the same class as alumni Shari Goo-Yoshino and Renee Ip.  Upon the recommendation of Mrs. Dorothy Craven, Henry transferred to the mainland (Houston, TX) in 1988, to work with Dr. James Jerger at Baylor College of Medicine, where he obtained a PhD and CCC-A.  Henry then completed his medical training, and became certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) in 2000. He is dedicated to improving the diagnosis and treatment of speech and hearing disorders in persons with various types of disabilities and cultural backgrounds. Dr. Lew is currently service as Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Hawaii (UH) John A. Burns School of Medicine.
